Sunrise Service Dogs Content Plan

Task: Sunrise Service Dogs is a non-profit group that was looking for a content plan as a step toward creating a website.

Step 1: Establishing Context and Conducting Research

Stakeholder Interview: The executive director discussed how the main goal of the website is to educate users about the organization, the application process for service dogs and information for current program users.

Competitive Analysis: A review of 14 similar organizations’ websites provided a lay of the land and allowed me to arrive at a list of relevant usability criteria for the website design.

Usability Criteria Uncovered During Heuristic Analysis

  • CTA is prominent in the header and repeated down the page, with secondary CTA

  • Information is presented in a clear and simple manner

  • Logical information architecture, with main actions represented prominently and found easily by users

  • Simple, uncluttered design

With the usability principles that I established in mind, I created a sitemap and a low-fidelity wireframe to map out the placement of content.

Limitations

I was not able to follow up with the website developer to guide implementation of my design and conduct QA, as the project was proceeding in separate stages.

I was not given access to the potential user base for research and testing, as would have been ideal.

Several of my suggestions were well-received by the client, but would need to be implemented at a later date to ensure proper processes were in place.
